Gary Coleman's catchy call for cash campaign
I was just checking out the Gary Coleman CashCall Advertisements. I have to say it is a very clever campaign. Notice when he says "No one would lend me money, not even my relatives". Brilliant line - having an audience relate to a person in an ad (not to mention a celebrity) is Marketing 101. Unfortunately with the down economy, many Americans are in the same situation. Call for Cash!

The Trevose Pennsylvania lawfirm Smolow & Landis is pursuing a class action arbitration against CashCall on behalf of Pennsylvania borrowers who were charged 99% interest and loan origination fees. The lawsuit alleges that CashCall is engaged in loan-sharking, and that its interest rates violate Pennsylvania’s usury laws. The lawsuit further alleges that CashCall has a sham relationship with the First Bank of Delaware (FBD) and that uses FBD to shield itself from state usury and consumer protection laws that are intended to protect consumers from outrageous lending practices. The lawsuit requests three times the amount of unlawful interest collected for each class member. Smolow & Landis is investigating CashCall’s similar practices in other states for possible legal action. For more information, contact lawyers@smolowlandis.com.
The funny thing about state usury laws is: they don't apply to CashCall loans, same as they don't apply to your credit cards with interest rates of 19.99%... Those are usually higher than usury rates, too. The reson they can do it is: The bank loaning the money is not located in the Commonwealth of PA, and thus is not subject to those usury laws. This "law firm" is trying to win a case that has been tried and tried for the past umpteen years... Good luck to them, they're going to need it...
